Dr. Steve
Dr. Steve Smith graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University in 1990. After graduation, he worked at two small animal hospitals in Detroit, Michigan: first, The Animal Hospital of Grosse Pointe Park and later, The Pet Practice on Mack Avenue.
When The Pet Practice was bought up by Veterinary Centers of America (VCA) in 1996, Dr. Smith stayed with the corporation but transferred to sunny southern California. Goodbye Michigan winters!
Dr. Steve was the Medical Director of VCA Silver Spur Animal Hospital in Palos Verdes until 1999, when he left the corporate world to become an independent contract veterinarian. This new career path gave Dr. Steve the freedom to travel all over California, as well as the invaluable experience of working in over 200 daytime and emergency hospitals.
Between the years of 2000 and 2003, Dr. Steve put his journey on hold and became the Director of Emergency Services at a new 24 hour hospital in West Hollywood, TLC Pet Medical Centers. Working nights at TLC was demanding, rewarding and gave substantial depth to Dr. Steve's career.
Never afraid to reinvent that career, Dr. Steve left TLC in 2003 and launched HomePetDoctor.com, providing home veterinary care to dogs and cats in Greater Los Angeles. In 2005, he teamed up with PAWS/LA and began providing low-cost veterinary care for their disabled, elderly and homebound clients.
Dr. Steve lives in Hollywood with two small rescued dogs that have agreed to help him with his advertising in exchange for free room & board. You can see Tigger & Scamper in the top banner area of this page.
Tigger and Scamper have a new buddy named Harry. Keep an eye out for new pictures, coming soon.
